Import Investment Names in Bulk

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark,
When I originally imported all my investements I used the ticker as both the investment symbol and name.
Is there a way to update the investment name data by importing a .csv?
I see there is a function File -> Import -> Other -> Security Properties
Is that the way?
Thank you
Eli

Hi Eli,

Yes, that is the command you would use. If you press "Help" in that dialog you will see some more explanation.
Thanks,
Mark

Thank you Mark.
As a follow up, when I run reports, how would I add a column for the symbol so that both Investment Name and Symbol are displayed in separate columns?
My most common reports are Portfolio Value and Investment Transactions.
(Or do I need to setup a custom report to do this?)
Thank you!

Hi elimb,

Some reports you can customize the columns somewhat under "Options / Report Preferences...", but to have complete control, use a Custom report. You can memorize as many different settings as you want by using "Edit / Memorize...". You can't get name and symbol in separate columns in the Portfolio Value or Investment Transaction reports. You can get this information consolidated in a single column by using "Options / General Preferences... / Display / Investment Description". This controls the "Investment Name" column when listing by investment. If you want name/symbol in 2 columns though, you'd need to use a Custom report.
Thanks,
Mark

Another question based on the first one:
Is there a way to import the investment name without the CUSIP, but rather based on the symbol?
I dont have CUSIP info for my investments.
Thank you

Hi elimb,

Sorry, no, not once the investment has been created... You can import the name based off the symbol when doing a price or transaction import from a file, but that only applies to new investments created during the import, it doesn't affect existing investments.
Thanks,
Mark
