Lump sum capital losses / delisted securities

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I'm getting my FM accounts up to date.

There are some old capital losses that didn't show up due to the stock being delisted or I deleted something somewhere. No problem, I know what the thing was, so now all I want to do is get my cash balance back to snuff, having deleted all references to it so 'solve' my missing line item that threw out the cash balance. I don't want to spend the time reconstructing the entries and getting the data downloaded and imported into FM.

How should I record the capital loss out of cash without using stock data while showing the lowering the cash balance AND record the negative performance overall on the portfolio during that time? My guess would be to:

1. go into Data Register for the Cash Account in question
2. Select as Distribution Type "Cash Adjustment" (User Defined)
3. Check Reinvested as to affect the cash value
4. Put in the Negative Value, Shares equal, Price 1
5. Might as well make the Memo say "To Record Capital Losses on XYZ"

How'd I do?? Close?

Thanks, Thomas

Hi ThomasK,

Yes, that would work to model a capital loss for performance, and also adjust your cash balance down. Please be aware you are moving the performance penalty from another stock where you had the loss to this cash investment. The overall effect at the portfolio level is the same though, which I believe is your intent here.
Thanks,
Mark
