Exchange rate adjusted reporting - wrong symbol

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Exspextations » Mon Jan 05, 2015 11:11 am

I have an investment in USD and have set up an exchange rate investment downloading the data from Bloomberg with currency set as USD and the symbol USDGBP:CUR. The imported data is correct, i.e. 1 USD is currently imported as GBP 0.625.

The investment is setup with a currency as USD, but when I create a graph of value with the Exchange rate adjusted flag unchecked, it shows the correct numerical value in GBP, but with a USD symbol shown before it. When I check the Exchange rate adjusted flag the inverse happens: the symbol on the graph is GBP, but the numerical value is the value in USD.

I have a GBP / EUR exchange rate investment for investments in EUR that works fine and can't see an obvious reason for the different behaviour.

I've obviously crossed my wires somewhere in the set up, but can't find what setting needs to be changed. While I can do the mental gymnastics to see what the value is a solution would be appreciated as I get incorrect reporting when creating report with investments from the same portfolio that are in different currencies.

Hi Exspextations,

It sounds like your default currency is GBP? If so, you need an exchange rate investment that converts from USD to GBP. It needs to be specified as how many USD equals 1 GBP. You can get this with the symbol:

GBPUSD:CUR

which is around 1.52 right now. This means 1.52 USD equals 1 GBP. This is the one you want, and not USDGBP:CUR which is the 0.625 number.
Thanks,
Mark

I figured there was a basic switch somewhere - issue fixed. Thanks for the feedback
