Assets without Symbols

Any suggestions on what to put in the symbol field for assets that do not have symbols? I made the mistake of applying a sector type to all assets with the same symbol when there was no symbol and ended up with other assets lumped in that did not have symbols.

As an example real property and annuities don't have symbols, can I just make one for them so they are unique?

Yes, you can make up any symbol you want. Generally it is a good idea to give unique holdings their own symbol.
