General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Downloaded sw. Trying to set up accounts. I currently have a Scottrade account with 3 accounts with this brokerage firm. These are TIRA, RIRA and a 401k transfer, I call Rollover account (this is temporary). These accounts are all "linked". I have, in the past, had Credit Union, Fidelity, and TRowe Price, and JP Morgan accounts and other for these monies.
Can you point me to the relevant documentation to setup. I would like to track by type (TIRA, RIRA, RO401k, tax deferred, non-tax deferred and aggravate). I have some same investments (Stk, CEF, ETF, MF in all (3) categories.
Can you advise with the structure under your sw for this setup.
The RIRA includes conversion and direct contributions, reported per 8606.

Hi OnYourOwn,
Thanks for evaluating Fund Manager. Usually you would want to create one sub-portfolio per account. This is ideal for retrieving your data from Scottrade. So, something like this:
My Holdings
- TIRA
- RIRA
- 401k
When you report, you can report by any of these:
Investment, Symbol, Asset Type, Investment Goal, Investment Type, Sub-Portfolio
So, if you'd like to track in any additional ways to the account/sub-portfolio structure, you can use these other methods. To do this, just make sure your investments are marked as the right investment type, or assign them to categories (asset/goal) in a manner that helps you. You can use the categories in any way you'd like, and you can customize the names of these categories under "Options / Category Labels...". To check your investment's type and category assignments, just right mouse click on one, and choose "Properties...".

Thank you for your reply. I will set-up structure per your suggestion.
I have a "technical" question. I use a SSD for OS/App and keep data on a RAID1 volume. SSD have many benefits (fast Read) for R/W, but major drawbacks, i.e., one must reformat after a time, due to write limitations. I keep data on RAID 1 volume. I would like to keep application on SSD, but data on RAID1 volume.
Can you help with the data files I would like to have on the RAID1 volume, but maintain the application on the SSD ?

Hi OnYourOwn,
Fund Manager has 2 types of data files, Investment (*.dat) and Portfolio (*.mm4). If you keep all these files wherever you want your data stored, you will have everything. You can also point your autobackups to go to this desired data location. See "Options / General Preferences... / Data".

Not quite sure of reply. I would prefer to keep *all* data on my RAID1 volume and no data on the SSD, but appliction on the SSD. No backups would be required due to RAID1. Can I move date files to RAID1 volume and modify where application looks for data ?

Hi OnYourOwn,
As long as you keep all your data in the same relative location to each other, then yes, you can move the data files to a new location and open it from them. For example, if your data is all in the folder "My Documents\Fund Manager" right now, you can just move this whole folder (Fund Manager) to your desired location. After you move it, start Fund Manager and choose "File / Open Portfolio..." and browse to where you moved your data to, and select your portfolio file. Verify that all of your investments are also coming from this new location by looking in the "Location" column in the Portfolio Editor. If you don't see a "Location" column now, add it using "View / List Columns...".

Thank you for your reply. It's also on page 14 of your manual.
I will follow directions and let you know of any "self imposed" lack of understanding.
