Purchasing software and saving my data

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby tedzo » Wed Jul 08, 2009 11:04 pm

Hello,
I have the 9.3 evaluation version (personal) and I now want to purchase the software. A couple of questions-

1. If I purchase the current version (9.6) and a new version 10.0 comes out in say 2-3 months, do I get a free upgrade?

2. What files do I need to back up before I attempt to install the purchased version (9.6). I have painstakingly entered a LOT of data and it would be catastrophic if somehow things got screwed up during the transition.

Thanks for your time.

Hi tedzo,

Thanks for your purchase plans.

1) We automatically issue free upgrades to anyone who purchases within 60 days of a major update. There is some leeway on this time period, so if you are close, you can email us and ask.

2) To back up your data, use "File / Backup...". Save this file somewhere safe. You can also make a copy of all your *.dat investment and *.mm4 portfolio files. You specify the location of these when you create them, but the default location is "My Documents / Fund Manager". When you do install 9.6, please do not uninstall 9.3 first. Just install 9.6 right over 9.3, and you should be able to continue on without changing anything.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the response.
You said I can make a copy of all the .dat and .mm4 files. Does that mean it is required for the backup to work or is it optional?

Thanks.

Hi tedzo,

This is not required if you make a backup using "File / Backup...". File / Backup... creates a single .fmb file that can be used later to restore all your .dat and .mm4 files. However, if you want, you can also just copy these .dat and .mm4 files as an extra way of backing up. If you want to keep it simple, just use "File / Backup..." and save the resulting file. That contains all your data.
Thanks,
Mark
