General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

When I use the Date Register and look at the "Investments (all)" date type, I cannot understand what I see. Looks like some other account. This cash account has only had the initial amount and then the minuscule amounts of interest added periodically. The closing price always shows 1, but the shares jumped from the correct amount $264.00 to -$150,000 in one day and then jumped to -$195,000.
I have looked at the properties of this investment: the "Internet Retrieve" tab has the option to "Retrieve Price" turned off.
Can I delete this entire account and manually put it back in with the correct balance?

Hi Ron,
If you reply to the prior thread, instead of starting a new one, that makes it easier to follow the history of the problem.
Are the other line items maybe the result of this being the default cash account, and having money taken out when you bought something else? Everything listed under "Investments (all)" is either a buy, sell, reinvestment, or a transfer. If those don't look right, you can just delete the wrong transactions right there. Highlight them, and press "Delete". I would suggest taking a close look at them, to understand how/why they got put there in the first place, to avoid the same problem again.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for pointing out how one is supposed to participate in a forum. It is new to me.
I have tried to delete the transactions that are wrong (those which jumped from $265.00 to -$195,000.00) and an error message is displayed which says that the "closing value" must be at least 1. All of the values in this account equal 1. It is just the number of shares that is wrong.
I must admit that I don't understand the concept of "default cash account." But, in this case there have been only three trades: the same stock purchased on three dates back in 2007. Other than the initial cash deposit, the three buys and the interest earned on the remaining cash on deposit, there should be no transactions in the account.
I'm getting all of my other little problems (all of my own making, I think) straightened out day by day and FM is going to work really well for me. It may be necessary for me to resort to reading the manual. Hate when that happens! But that is life.
But first I would really like to get rid of this cash account problem.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Ron,
It sounds like you tried to delete the 1 closing price. If you are in the Data Register, make sure to set the Data Type to "Investments (all)" in the upper/right corner. Then, you will see all your recorded transactions. You can modify/delete any of these as necessary. The transactions are what determine your share balance at any point in time.
A default cash account is something that can be used or not. When it is used, anytime you record a buy in the sub-portfolio, that money used for the buy is taken out of your default cash account, automatically. The same idea applies for sells and distributions (dividends/interest) paid by some investment. You assign the default cash account on a sub-portfolio basis, in the "Properties..." dialog for a sub-portfolio. If you'd like, you can read the online help about default cash accounts here:
http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/help ... _cash.html
If things still don't seem to work out, you may want to give us a quick call. We can do a short web conference, and take a look at it together.

Thanks Mark,
I went to the Data Register and set the Data Type to "Investments (all)" as you instructed and then I expanded the width of the Memo column and printed it out. It showed that I had many transactions in this account which belong in other places (with other brokers). I deleted all of them and got the correct balance. Whew! I don't know how I got those transactions in there, all of the other account seem to be correct. But, I have been messing around pretty aggressively.
Thanks so much for your patience and help.
I may have to take you up on your offer to help over the phone at a later time.
