Best way to structure portfolio entry

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hello,

I have investments in a few currencies which means I have a few cash accounts in various currencies. The trouble is that to set default cash accounts, I have to establish sub-portfolio; but if I book investments in sub-portfolio, then in Master Portfolio view pane, I can only view sub-portfolio total but not each investment. So, I book investments under Master Portfolio, but then because cash account is not linked, I have to book cash entry and withdrawal manually each time I buy/sell stock, which is really a lot of hassle. Do you have any recommendation to solve this problem?

BTW, because I am not trading with one of your brokers, I cannot automatically retrieve my transactions..

Thank you.

Hi realbg,

I would suggest putting your investments into the sub-portfolios, not the Master Portfolio. If you want to see details from the Master Portfolio at the investment level, create yourself a report. The right side of the Portfolio Editor only shows what is directly in the highlighted sub-portfolio on the left. You can either select a lower level sub-portfolio on the left to see its contents, or just create a report.
Thanks,
Mark

I knew you are going to say that. Haha

Mark - Would you consider making sub-portfolio folders expandable in the right side pane of master view in your next version? I would love that option.

Hi realbg,

How would that work? Do you mean have a little plus sign next to a folder, and then show the investments/sub-portfolios beneath it indented? The Portfolio Editor works a lot like Windows Explorer does, where you have the hierarchy in a tree view on the left, and the right is a list view of the contents of the selected item on the left. Displaying more hierarchy in a list view is not something I've seen as a standard.
Thanks,
Mark
