Moving DAT files

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby oyz79 » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:43 am

Somehow my DAT files started being saved directly to my computers desktop. I pasted the files into my fundmanager folder on my c drive, but after updating prices within FM the files reappeared on my desktop. Is there some other way to move the files to the correct folder on my C drive so that they do not reappear on my desktop?

Hi oyz79,

From within Fund Manager find these investment files being saved to your Desktop, and re-save them to the desired location. To find them you can either use the Portfolio Editor window, and add the "Location" field to the list view using "View / List Columns...", or you can use a "Custom" report with the "Path and filename" field. Once you find a mis-placed investment, select it in the Portfolio Editor, and use "File / Save Investment As..." and direct it to your desired location.

To prevent this from happening in the future, make sure that when you manually create a new investment you select the correct folder when assigning it a filename. If you are retrieving or importing, press the "Options..." button next to the "Create new investments as needed" option in the retrieve dialog and make sure it has your desired location set for any newly created investments.
Thanks,
Mark
