General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark,
When installing Fund Manager Personal on a new PC should I be installing it as the Administrator or as the User?
I am on Windows 7 professional (64).
The problem I have is that when installed as a user it will not allow me to update the quote modules or transaction modules. I am currently set up with transaction module 0 !!
I get error message #26 when I attempt to run the updates on the user mode. Also I am unable to restore my backup file under the administrator login.
When I am logged in as the user and windows request the administrator password to to make a change (ie to update the transaction mode) it rejects my admin password !!
Under the admin mode I get the message: "Could not load TRANRETR.DLL. Make sure it is located in the smae directory as the fm.exe executable.
This feature requires Internet explorer 3.0 or later to be installed. If the TRANRETR.DLL is present in the same directory as fm.exe, make sure you have IE 3.0 or later installed."
Please advise.

Hi rupertpage,

If you want to install it in the normal area of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Fund Manager" the user you install as must have administrative privileges. If you have Fund Manager installed in this folder, the user that performs the update for the quote and transaction module must be able to obtain administrative privileges without changing users.

A Limited user cannot elevate privileges to the administrative level, so won't be able to do the updates.

For your "User" account, do you know what type of account it is set up as in Windows? If it is a Limited user I would suggest installing FM under the Administrative user, and doing all the updates under the Administrative user. You can still run FM as a Limited user, but just won't be able to do the updates as that user. Any updates done by the Administrator will be there for the limited user as well.

Probably the most common method is to run as a user that has an Administrative account, but you aren't normally launching the program as an admin. That user can start and use Fund Manager as a regular user, and only elevate when prompted to do so for the updates.
Thanks,
Mark
