Update Evaluation Forces Purchase

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

So. If you one chooses to evaluate the new update version, one must buy it or lose all their previous data.

Sounds like it would be best to download the new version, run it separately from the current version, import a copy of current data into it, and THEN evaluate it.

How do we do this?

Hi Septaj,

Once you save a particular set of data with the new v12 you can no longer open that with any prior version. The v12 uses a new file format. There are probably several ways you can evaluate it while maintaining your ability to use the old versions. Here are a few ideas:

1) Before installing v12, use v11 to make a backup of your data. Use "File / Backup...". Now, install v12, and when you open your data it will ask you for permission to convert your data to the new format. Choose "Yes to all", and let it save everything in the new format. If you decide to go back to v11, re-install v11, and use "File / Restore..." to restore your data. Please note, this will put you back to where you were when you did the backup. Anything you added while using v12 won't show up in your restored data since it was backed up before these changes.

2) Make a separate copy of your v11 data files, and operate v12 on that copy. Even if you choose this method, I would suggest still doing a backup with v11 first, just in case you accidentally opened/save one of your v11 data files with v12.

3) Operate v12 only with the samples shipped with the product. (Again, make a backup with v11 anyway, just in case...).

I would say #1 is the simplest way to go, but any of the above methods would work.
Thanks,
Mark
