Hi Mark,

How can I use one single default cash account for all my sub-portfolios?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

Assign the same cash investment to be the default cash account for each sub-portfolio, or you can just do it once at the top level sub-portfolio.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
I did not fully understand your answer above and would like to come back to it. My objective is to have one cash account which is the default cash account for all my sub-portfolios.
First you suggested defining the same cash investment to be the default cash account in each sub-portfolio. I understood that it is not possible to hold one investment in multiple sub-portfolios. So I would have to create a different cash investment in each sub-portfolio, even if it had the same name and symbol each one would still be stored as a distinct investment. That does not get me to my objective.
Second, did you mean creating the cash investment at the master portfolio level? This sounds good but after doing that I am not able to select this investment to be the default cash account in the sub-portfolios properties dialogues. The drop down only offers investments that are within each sub-portfolio.
Could you explain a bit more about how I can achieve this?
Thanks,
David

Hi David,

Yes, I meant to create just one cash investment, and you can locate it wherever you want, like maybe directly in the Master Portfolio. When you go into each sub-portfolio's properties you will see where you can assign a default cash account. By default only investments directly in that sub-portfolio are listed to choose from, but if you select that "Show All" button right next to this drop-down, you can then choose from any open investment in any sub-portfolio.

Also, you don't actually have to go to each sub-portfolio and assign a default cash account. You can do it just once at the top-most sub-portfolio (Master Portfolio). When you assign a default cash account at the Master Portfolio level it will also apply to all other sub-portfolios beneath this, that do not specifically have a different default cash account assigned.
Thanks,
Mark
