question about account heirarchy

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I'm a new user (personal version) I'm setting up multiple accounts corresponding to various IRA and Roth IRA's for me and also for my wife. For each IRA (or Roth) there are two accounts: one brokerage account, and one mutual fund account (which includes a money market mutual fund which is the sweep account linked to the brokerage account). I'm looking for advice on

(a) the correct hierarchical relationship between the mutual fund and brokerage accounts for each IRA (or Roth), and

(b) how to integrate the "default cash account" feature for two accounts paired this way.

Thanks for your help.

Hi ethanyale,

You can use whatever sub-portfolio hierarchy you like, but each account should be in a separate sub-portfolio. You can do something like this:

Code: Select all
- Master Portfolio
  - IRA #1
    - IRA #1 Brokerage
    - IRA #1 Mutuals
  - IRA #2
    - IRA #2 Brokerage
    - IRA #2 Mutuals

On the portfolio properties of your brokerage accounts, next to the "Default Cash Account" drop-down is a check box "Show All". For these accounts you would want to turn on that option, and then the drop-down will show all investments from all sub-portfolios. You can then go pick the money market from the "Mutuals" sub-portfolio associated with that account.
Thanks,
Mark
