Fund Manager with Upcoming Windows 10

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi aviator,

So, on the Security tab, when you select your username, you see a check mark in the "Allow" column for all permissions, for both the "AppData" and "Roaming" folders?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, that is correct. However, the check mark under my username (for AppData and Roaming) is slightly grey vs. the check mark under my folder name (below Users and above AppData) which is completely black.

Don't know if that makes a difference but the check marks are distinctly different.

Hi aviator,

Those permission check marks are the same on my system. Black at the user level, but gray at the AppData level. I don't know why. I'm guessing because the folder is hidden.

Since it sounds like your permissions are set correctly, maybe something else is going on... Are you running any additional anti-virus type software that could be blocking FM somehow?

You could also try the experiment of creating a new user with admin rights, installing FM under that user, and doing a price retrieve. That will help determine if the problem is specific to your user or not.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for trying to help with this.

Regarding anti-virus software, not running anything.

I did create another profile with admin privileges, to try to change the admin rights. Did not attempt to install FM under that profile. Quite honestly, I'm a little nervous about re-installing FM. I rely heavily on your software and I'd rather run it as an admin than totally screw things up as to render is unusable.

I'm willing to give you access to my computer so we can troubleshoot this. Are you available this week so we figure this out?

Thanks,
aviator

Hi Mark,

I installed the latest version of Fund Manager, and it appears to have solved the problem. Thanks for your help.

One question: I recently bought extra cloud storage from Microsoft's OneDrive, previously had Google Drive. I store FM data on OneDrive as an extension of a local drive. In other words, when I launch FM, data is retrieved from the cloud. I also backup my files to the cloud. I don't recall having to change any settings within FM to have it point to the cloud. Is this correct (or the recommended way to store data in the cloud)?

Thanks.

Hi aviator,

Excellent, glad you solved that problem.

You can verify your data location by using "File / File Operations / Set Data Location...". You can also look at where your backups are set under "Options / General Preferences... / Data".
Thanks,
Mark
