etrade and vanguard downloads

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Bob MacBook » Wed Feb 17, 2010 1:31 pm

When I try to Retrieve Transactions from my ETrade and Vanguard accounts, it never gets anything.

For Vanguard, I have no recent transactions at Vanguard, but it says 2 of 2 portfolios failed.

For ETrade, I do have recent transactions and it also says 1 of 1 portfolio failed.

Are there any special instructions, like I saw on the Forum, with Fidelity needing your social security number and TIAA-CREF not supporting Quicken connections?

Hi Bob,

I don't know of anything special here. As long as you have your correct username/password, they should retrieve. Do you get any error messages? Try retrieving just one account at a time. If it says something about signon invalid, then your username/password are not right.
Thanks,
Mark

I think it's my Windows setup. When I try to get just one of my Vanguard accounts, it says:

Post HttpOpenRequest WinInet error code 12157 Message:
Failed to retrieve portfolio.
Broker: Vanguard Group
Account Number: 12345678
User ID: abcdef

I am guessing the cause of the problem is that I am running Fm.exe under Wine, which allows you to run a Windows app on a Mac without actually having to pay for, install, or boot Windows. Quicken is certified to work under Wine, and Fund Manager can retrieve historical prices from yahoo. So this Wine setup is close, but not quite workable. Luckily there is a workaround, which is to download transactions from OFX files. That is how I got my data into FM in the first place, and that worked fine.

Hi Bob,

I know other customers are using Wine under Linux, and successfully retrieving transactions. I don't have any experience with it on a Mac though. It seems there is some internal error loading the SSL libraries. If you look on this page, you can find a short description of the error:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 85%29.aspx

Fund Manager does use a component of Internet Explorer (WinInet) to handle the HTTPS (SSL) communication with the OFX servers. Maybe there are some options in Wine you can configure.
Thanks,
Mark
