CD Purchase?

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Good morning!

How should I best enter a CD purchase? Investment type, asset type, number of shares, etc.

Thanks.
David.

Hello David,

I would suggest recording it as a cash type investment, and keeping the price fixed at 1. The number of shares are equal to the value.
Thanks,
Mark

David,

I'm pretty new to Fund Manager, but I buy a lot of bonds and CDs. I look at them as being part of the same portfolio allocation as I buy based on the best rate I can get. If it's an investment grade corporate bond or a CD, it doesn't make a lot of difference to me. Historically, the default rate on AAA or AA rated bonds has been miniscule so the risk factor compared to FDIC insured CDs has been minor in my investment approach.

So, I set CDs up as Investment Type "Bonds", and have then set up an Asset Type of "Bonds/CDs" and an Investment Goal of "CD". I then set up the income with interest paid at maturity (generally). Sometimes I have CD with semi-annual or quarterly payments as well. And I occasionally by a CD at a premium or discount on the secondary market so I have to do amortization/accretion with it.
