Multiple accounts with broker

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby hschil » Sat Apr 23, 2011 8:12 am

I just downloaded your program and added one of my accounts very easily

I have another account with Wells Fargo Advisors which is on your list. Within it there are 4 accounts, 1 in my name and 2 trust accounts and one IRA for my brother-in-law.

When I down load for the 1st time from from the broker will the accounts download as they are? Creating 4 separate accounts. Do I need to do anything special?

I appreciate the help.

Howard,

I'm not sure mine is the best answer, but Mark can set you straight in case my suggestion doesn't work.

When I used Fund Manager for the first time, I used a slightly different method. First I created the sub-portfolio within Fund Manager (from within the Portfolio Editor, right click on the Master Portfolio, then click on New Sub-portfolio...). Fill in the appropriate information like account name and account number. Then click on Transaction Retrieve Settings. Check off the Retrieve Transactions box, and enter your User ID, Password and Account Number accordingly.

Hope this works for you.

Thanks for the reply.

When I log into my account using my own log -in ( not account #) and password, there are 4 accounts there. I just want to make sure they will down load the 1st time correctly.
To look at a particular account I would just click on it.

Hi Howard,

You want to end up with 1 sub-portfolio for each account. You can either do as aviator described, and set up these sub-portfolios in advance, and then retrieve transactions for all of them, or you can use the New Portfolio Wizard 4 times, once for each account. One benefit of using the New Portfolio Wizard is that you can retrieve "Transactions and Positions". This can be useful when your broker doesn't have transactions going back to the inception of your account. Many brokers only keep transactions on their OFX servers for a limited amount of time. By retrieving transactions and positions, you get all available transactions, plus an adjustment transaction recorded to get your current balances correct.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the speedy reply.

One more question.

I also have an account with https://www.siebertnet.com. I did not see it on your list of brokers! Is it possible to put it on your list.

Thanks,

Howard

Hi Howard,

We'll gladly add support for any broker that offers the required "Open Financial Exchange" server. To the best of our knowledge we support every broker offering one. You might contact that broker and ask if they have plans to make one available for you to use. If/when they do, we'll add support. For more on this, see:
