Index Problems

I am trying to download the various indexes but the only one I have been successful so far is with the Dow Jones. I have been able to find all of the indexes and their file name, but FM reports that no updates have taken place.

Is there a special way to indicate indexes? The code I stumbled on for the Dow Jones is: ^DJI. If I take away the "^", it not longer provides me with data. If I use the "official" code, DJIA-I, I receive the error message.

I also have this problem with some mutual funds. I have some old codes which still work; but if I look at their websites, they have new codes but when I input them into FM, I receive the usual error message.

Do you have any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong?

Hi johnreid,

You'll need to use the symbols as shown on whatever quote server you're using. If you're trying to get historical quotes from Yahoo (Historical), go to Yahoo with your browser, and look up the ticker symbols they use for the indices, and record the same symbols in FM. To view Yahoo's ticker symbols for all their indices, go here:

http://finance.yahoo.com/indices

The same is true for other investment types as well, you need to record the symbol, as it is used on the quote server you're using.

Thanks, your response was helpful and I have been able to solve some of my problems. I'll get the rest of them done now that I know the requirements of the programme.
