Location of Exchange Rate Portfolio / Investments

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Presently my exchange rate portfolio and investments are under the same master file as offshore investments. But I want to run performance reports on the master portfolio without displaying the exchange rates as investments. Is there a way to do this?

If I move the exchange rates into a new, separate master file will the investments in the offshore investment master file still be able to link to the exchange rates?

Hi KCarlander,

By "master file" do you mean a *.mm4 portfolio file? An investment must be open (and thus included in some sub-portfolio) in order to be be used as an exchange rate investment.

One way to do this is with sub-portfolios. Organize your sub-portfolio like this:

Code: Select all
Top Level
  Exchange rates
  Master Portfolio
Thanks,
Mark

Ok I didn't understand there could be a Top Level portfolio above a Master Level Portfolio.

I had it set up:

Master Level
-----Exchange Rates
-----Investment Portfolio

Also, I have set up my portfolios without subportfolios for investments. The investments are just in the portfolio. Will this cause me problems? Shall I create subportfolios?

Hi KCarlander,

There is only 1 highest level sub-portfolio, but it can be named anything you want. The highest level sub-portfolio is also a sub-portfolio. Any open investment is in a sub-portfolio. I suspect you have something like:

Code: Select all
Master Portfolio
  Investment A
  Investment B

If you look at this in the Portfolio Editor, you only have one sub-portfolio on the left "Master Portfolio", but all your investments are in this sub-portfolio.

Just right mouse click on "Master Portfolio" and choose "Create New Sub-Portfolio". You can then select your investments in Master Portfolio and drag/drop them into this new sub-portfolio. I'd suggest reading our online tutorial on using the Portfolio Editor, it should clear some of this up.
