Before I import a bunch of data...

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby BradN » Fri Feb 10, 2012 11:20 am

Hi Mark,

Please clarify for me... I want to preserve the state of FM (portfolios, investments, anything I may be overlooking) before I import a large generic dataset.

What steps do I need to take to completely immunize and protect my current work if this goes wrong?

Thanks so much in advance,

Brad

Hi Brad,

If you do a "File / Backup..." and save a backup file (*.FMB) that backs up everything as you are viewing it in the current portfolio file.

Also, if you do an import, you will see everything in the "Preview" dialog where you can still cancel.

Even if you finish the import and accept it after previewing, you can still exit without saving. Just turn off "Options / Save Investments on Exit" and "Options / Save Portfolio on Exit", and exit. When prompted to save, just say no.

If you do accidentally save something you don't want, you can always go back to where you started by restoring the *.FMB file.
Thanks,
Mark
