I am test driving Fund Manager Advisor and so far I really like the software. I'm using a couple custodians, TDAmeritrade and FolioInstitutonal. I've had no problems linking up my TDA accounts, but I am having some problems with Folio. Folio does not directly link up to FMA so I need to get a daily download. So far I have tried two different download packages from Folio and neither one has worked. The first download package didn't contain a position file (only a .BAL). This second package contains a .POS file (as well .PRI, .SEC, .TRN, and .NAM files) but when I import the .POS file there is no data (there is data when I view the file in notepad). Also, when importing the price file in this second download package I get a dialog box that says, "Could not update any investments." My questions. 1. Has anyone used FMA with FolioInstitutional? 2. What data download(s) should I request? Thanks in advance for the help.
Hi mattedgar75,
I believe FOLIOfn has multiple file formats. You might want to ask them if they've enabled your account for Fund Manager (also called "Centerpiece" format). You should get the files you mentioned (*.TRN, *.POS, etc), and then import those files. It may be that you have these files formatted for a different portfolio management product. If you'd like to send me a sample to look at please let me know, and I'll send you an email you can reply to with an attached sample set.
Thanks for the quick respnse Mark. I will contact Folio with this information. Also, send me an e-mail and I will shoot these files over to you to take a look at. Thanks again.
Hi mattedgar75,
Thanks for the sample file. It is not in the expected Centerpiece format. It is a fixed width file, instead of a comma delimited format. Please contact FOLIOfn, and ask them to switch you over to the Centerpiece format that Fund Manager is expecting. I suspect FOLIOfn can help you get this changed, but if you have any problems, we have a contact at FOLIOfn we can ask for help.
I've sent Folio Institutional an e-mail and I will update this post with the result. Thanks again.
Just wanted to leave an update on how my data issue with Folio Institutional was resolved. Folio activated the “Portfolio Center” download package. It’s an executable file (.EXE) that I download to my desktop. When you click on the file it creates all the required file formats in the same directory (desktop in my case). I’ve checked all the files and they import into Fund Manger Advisor with no problem. I’m not sure if this will help those of you on the Folio individual platform, but for advisors on Folio Institutional this is the solution: request “Portfolio Center” downloads, download to computer, run executable, import into FMA. Thanks again Mark for your help, I look forward to using and learning more about Fund Manager Advisor.
Hi mattedgar75,
Thanks for the follow-up information. We'll add this tip into the online help for the next release.
