Moving Sub-Portfolio

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I mistakenly created a new portfolio that was placed as a sub-portfolio under an existing portfolio. How do I move it to it's own spot?

Hi adamrf,

On the left side of the Porftolio Editor, hilight the parent of this sub-portfolio you wish to move. You should then see the sub-portfolio you want to move listed on the right. Select it from the right, and drag/drop it onto the sub-portfolio where you want it to be located on the left.
Thanks,
Mark

I want to move it to the Master Portfolio and it won't drag and drop to it. Should I just create another similar (shell) sub and move it to that?

Hi adamrf,

That shouldn't be necessary. You can move it to the Master Portfolio. Let me try to give an example that may help. Let's say you have a sub-portfolio hierarchy like this now:

Code: Select all
- Master Portfolio
  - Sub 1
    - Sub 2

and you want it to look like this:

Code: Select all
- Master Portfolio
  - Sub 1
  - Sub 2

so that both Sub 1 and 2 are located directly in Master Portfolio. To move Sub 2 out of Sub 1 and into Master Portfolio, do this:

Hilight Sub 1 on the left hand side. You will see Sub 2 on the right since Sub 2 is currently inside Sub 1. Select Sub 2 on the right side, and hold down the left mouse button while you drag Sub 2 over onto Master Portfolio on the left side. When your cursor is on top of Master Portfolio you should see the cursor change to a folder shape, and then you can let up on the left mouse button.
Thanks,
Mark

Good to know ! The online help could be more explicit on how to move sub-portfolios.. In the help, page Portfolio Editor, there is only (if I'm right) :

You can copy or move sub-portfolios and investments by selecting them and dragging/dropping them to their desired destination. Hold down the Ctrl key before dropping in order to copy the selection to the destination. If the Ctrl key is not held down the selected items will be moved.

Some information could be added (be in the right side, drag in the left side...) !
