Running FM on a Thumb Drive

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby cfies » Sun Jul 14, 2013 6:33 pm

I have been running Fund Manager from a Thumb Drive for awhile. I recently had trouble updating to the latest version. It opened a second copy of FM with an old file. Is there a proper procedure for updating?
I was researching that issue on the forum when I found out that exclusive use of a thumb drive was not available. Was it previously? I would like to have a way (I thought I did) to run Fund Manager from a portable drive without any trace of it on the running machine.

Thanks,

Carl Fies

Hi Carl,

As of FM 12 you can use the new "portable/cloud mode" to run exclusively from a thumb drive. For more on this feature, see:

The proper procedure for updating is to install the new version right over the old one, without uninstalling the old one first.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, Just started using a Thumb drive; it appears to work great. Should I remove Fund Manager from my laptop so that they don't interfere with each other? Bill

Hi Bill,

You can, but do not have to. It would probably be safer, to make sure you are always running the copy off your thumb drive, and not the one from your hard drive.
Thanks,
Mark
