Q: autoname.dat

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

after fresh data import (generic from spreadsheet) - i have some autoname.dat (autoname1, 2 etc.) files showing up ... usually empty symbol field and some stray data within file.
can't delete from Data Register /Portfolio Editor ...
i assume this was some missing chunk in the original imported spreadsheet data ... safe to delete corresponding .dat file from corresponding folders?
reconciled balances seems correct.

this was an easy one today, wasn't it ...

thanks

Hi jerryo,

When the transaction import creates new investments, it tries to name the investment files based off the symbol. If there is no symbol, then it defaults to 'autoname', which is what happened here.

You cannot delete investment files from within Fund Manager. You can 'close' an investment from within Fund Manager, but to delete the investment file itself you must use Windows Explorer or something like this to actually go delete the file. It is fine to delete the file, as long as you've first closed it in Fund Manager. It is not necessary to delete the file, but if you'd like to keep things clean, it is fine to delete, as long as you're not using it in Fund Manager.
Thanks,
Mark
