FM in the Cloud.

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark,
I know we've visited this topic before, but I'm still having problems with getting FM 100 percent to the cloud.

So far, here's what I've done:
1) Moved all FM data off my hard drive and into the cloud (using google drive).
2) Am able to launch and run FM from the cloud. Works as if it was running locally.
3) However, when I attempt to switch to Portable/Cloud Mode (Options/General Preferences/Data tab), I get the error message below.
4) I'm running FM (Pro version 12.4) off Windows 8 (on a desktop). Price retrieve and transaction modules are current versions.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi aviator,

That message tells me that you've started FM from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Fund Manager folder, and not a google drive folder. Are you sure you copied (or installed) the program files (including Fm.exe) to the google drive, and you're double clicking on it to start it from the google drive folder, and not the program files area? Maybe you have copied only a shortcut to the google drive folder? If it is a shortcut, it may still be pointing back to your program files folder. Please double check how you are starting the program, to make sure you are running it from the google drive folder, and not your program files area.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

As usual thanks for the quick and informative reply.

You're absolutely correct, my start menu link was inadvertently pointing to the version of FM in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder and NOT google drive. I changed the link properties to point to google drive and everything works like a charm, including turning on "Portable/Cloud Mode".

I'll leave the local version of FM until I'm sure I'm OK with the performance of google drive. But so far it seems to be working very well. Love the idea of no longer having to make backups that have to be uploaded to the cloud!
