Adding to default GICS Industry Groups

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby ThomasK » Thu Jul 10, 2014 12:51 pm

Hi Mark,

I posted something yesterday that does not seem to show. Same topic.

I want to add some asset groups: cash, bonds, precious metals.

I'm concerned that I might interfere with the functioning/calculating of the program.

What do I need to watch out for?

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

If you're using GICS Industry Groups for your Sectors you can safely rename/use any of the "Unused X" sectors. When using GICS, you must manually assign your investment properties, as these aren't "retrievable", like they are if you stick with the Morningstar sector names.
Thanks,
Mark

Great.

Is it also safe to rename/use any of the Asset Type labels still?

Yes, you can rename any of the category labels. The only restriction is if you want to retrieve asset types and sectors from the internet, you need to leave the preset ones with their default labels. Even if you're retrieving, you can change any of the "Unused x" labels and use them. If you're manually assigning your investments to categories, you can change all the labels you want.
Thanks,
Mark
