I have two sub-portfolios that have completely lost data. Recently downloaded Data to memory card. Computer was in being fixed having it cleaned from a virus. Any Idea?

Hi reddragon,

I can't tell what went wrong, but you might try restoring from a backup. See "Options / General Preferences... / Data" to find the location of your automatic backups. Use "File / Restore..." to restore from a recent one.
Thanks,
Mark

I,m just not confident to hit restore. Only two sub-portfolios are missing data. Will the data overlap on the other accounts if I try to restore it all? I,m tempted to just manually enter what is missing? Is there any advice you can give me or am I on my own on this?

Hi reddragon,

You can use "File / Backup..." before you start, and then save a backup somewhere safe. That way, no matter what happens when you do the restore, you can always get back to where you are now by restoring the backup you just made. When you select "File / Restore..." you will be prompted for a *.FMB file to restore. Once you pick a *.FMB file to restore you will see several options, controlling what to restore, and where to restore it. Nothing is changed until after you've selected the *.FMB, specified your restore options, and choose "Restore".

The contents of your sub-portfolios is saved in your *.mm4 portfolio file, so in your case you would want to restore this file at least.
Thanks,
Mark

I just re-entered the Data that I lost manually. I added another account to the master portfolio yesterday. Down loaded four months of transactions and when I pulled up new account today it was not in Fund Manager. What am I doing to lose this info. Is there something I should do when exiting Fund Manager? How do I do A back up?

Hi reddragon,

Sorry to hear about the troubles. Do you know where you're storing your data? Are the data files you created still there? Each investment should have its own *.dat file. There is also a single *.mm4 portfolio file that remembers all your sub-portfolios, and which investments belong in each sub-portfolio. When you exit FM, if you have any un-saved data you will be prompted to save. Do you have open your same portfolio file today that you were working with yesterday? You can see the path to your portfolio file under the "Properties..." of any sub-portfolio.

To create a backup, use "File / Backup...". That will save a *.FMB file with whatever data is currently open. If necessary, you could use a "File / Restore..." to put it all back. This should normally not be necessary. If your data was there yesterday, and not today, then it sounds like something else is going wrong. I would double check where you're saving your data, and that you're re-opening the same exact data files again the next day. Normally when you start FM, it will re-open your same portfolio file that was last open. You might check the shortcut you're using to start FM, to make sure it isn't pointing to a portfolio file other than the one you're using. You might also do just a quick test, of creating an investment, saving, exiting, and re-starting, to make sure nothing else strange is going on.
Thanks,
Mark
