General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Mark,
I upgraded to Windows 10. I can not autosave my portfolio upon exit. Message is "Access is Denied..." ; then "Autosave failed..."

I have read previous discussions on the Access is Denied topic on this forum and have used the File Operations location assignment successfully, etc. The only way I can save files is to start the FM program using Start as Administrator... Funny thing is that I am the Administrator. I also checked the file properties for all files in my Users/Owner/Fund Manager folder and they are all set for full access... What's wrong?

Another quick... I have the program installed on my Desktop and my Laptop. The Desktop is fine... It was updated the same way as the Laptop... The difference is the Desktop has a different name for the User folders. I did a restore of the Desktop file and stored the new portfolio to the correct folder on the Laptop... Still get the Access denied message... Help.. Bob

Hi Bob,

Did you check the properties of the file that is failing to save? If it is your *.mm4 file, check that, or if it is a particular investment file (*.dat), check that. Make sure it isn't marked as Read-Only, and that your user has edit permissions for the file.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I think it was the read/write privileges on the "name.MD4" file. On my desktop system, the "read only" button is activated but on the Laptop where I had restored the desktop file TO, it was not highlighted... So, I went into the Security tab and dropped to the "HomeUsers" group and set the Permissions to allow everything. That cured the problem and now I can write to the folder and autosave the program.

Interestingly, if I now go back to look at the file permissions, the group policy has 3 of the 5 permissions set but the "everything" is not as I had saved it BUT the "read-only" button on the General Tab is highlighted whereas before it was not highlighted... Seems the permissions I gave this file on the security tab may conflict with other permissions in general but getting the "Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)" button activated seems to be the solution..

Thanks for pointing me in the proper direction. Bobj
