Using a VPN connection is slow

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

When opening Fund Manager using a network drive via VPN -- the data takes a longtime to load. It could take 5+ minutes to finally open the portfolio.

My question is this normal and is there anyway to speed this up if not? Often I need to work from home and access the data from a laptop with a vpn connection to the office network.

Hi MC,

Fund Manager doesn't do anything special when going over a VPN. When you open a portfolio file (*.mm4), all your investment files (*.dat) are also read. If your connection to the data files is slower, then the opening process will be slower. The only "fix" is to move the location of your data files, so you can access them faster, like from the local disk.

Thanks for the reply. I figured as much -- I think it's just the volume of .dat files that is the problem when running it over an internet versus an intranet.
