investment copy & paste

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark, I just got myself into a big mess: I copied and pasted an investment from one portfolio to another but now, as you wrote, 'If you make an edit in that investment, it is reflected everywhere that investment is located'. How do I decouple the 2 investments ? If I erase the new one the old one will get erased as well.
Once this problem is solved I will use Create New Investment from Existing in the File menu to create the same investment in the other portfolio without the original transactions.

Hi slucheri,

You just want to "close" one of them. In the Portfolio Editor, right mouse click on one of them, and choose "Close". That will close that one, but leave the other one open.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, I'm reopening this post because i think the idea here is to be able to copy and paste an investment (as a new -pasted- investment) so that much of the information can remain but changes be made without affecting the initial -copied- investment. Can this be done in any way? I find that a very useful tool if it was.

Hi pepo,

You can do this with the menu command:

File / File Operations / New Investment from Existing...
Thanks,
Mark
