Recurring Error Messages

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby gmfry » Sat Jun 13, 2009 7:23 pm

I am getting error messages frequently when downloading quotes. Today I established a new security and during the download of historical prices for it, I got dozens of error dialogs that read either:
"Could not open C:\Users\Gerry\AppData]Roaming\Fund Manager\comm_dll.txt"
or
"Could not create internet output log file 'C:\Users\Gerry\AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager\intlog.txt.' Please verify that you have write permission to this file, and it is not in use or locked by another application."

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Hi Gerry,

For some reason Fund Manager doesn't seem to have permission to write to these required log files. I would suggest browsing to that folder using Windows Explorer. Right mouse click on the folder:

C:\Users\Gerry\AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager

and look at the "Properties...". Click on the "General" tab. Make sure "Read-only" is not checked. Click on the "Security" tab. Click on your username (Gerry) in the list of user names at the top. Do you have a check mark next to "Full control"? Repeat this for the specific log files (comm_dll.txt/intlog.txt) and make sure none of them are read-only, and you have full control over these log files.

The other possibility is some other application has these files open. For example, if you are running multiple copies of Fund Manager, this could happen, if both copies were trying to retrieve at the same time.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, Mark. Yes, the Fund Manager folder itself was marked "Read Only," which I unchecked. All the other properties were correct in it and the other log files. Hopefully this will correct the problem.
