exchanges and oop/history

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby JeanneMarie » Mon Sep 30, 2024 12:16 pm

I've had an exchange: 710 shares of ACP for 700 shares of FAM. No cash or any other complications.

Well, they gave me ACP at zero cost. So that's not right and I plugged in my original cost basis. When I make a report that includes OOP basis & gain however, I've lost all the history in FAM.

So I think I'd like to merge these two positions somehow and just want your advice on the best way before I go fiddling around manually. Should I just change the name/symbol/cusip on the old position? Or is there an easy way to transfer the history from the old to the new? Some much better/smarter way?

Many thanks.

Hi JeanneMarie,

There are a couple of ways:

1) Use the "Transfer Between" wizard
2) Record a split with a ratio of 710 for 700 and then change the name/symbol/cusip

I prefer option 2, as that keeps the whole history in the same investment, instead of 2.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks a bunch. I too prefer #2 as this is very much the same investment from my vantage point.
