Investment no longer showing up in Portfolio

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

HI Mark,

I'm a long time user and have an stock investment that has data entered for the past 20 years. I have had Fund Manager for at least 12 years and probably longer. Several months back I noticed that this particular investment was no longer present in my portfolio or in the data base. It just disappeared. I found it in a backup file, but when I tried to copy it over to my hard drive, I had problems with Fund Manager and had to restore to get things working properly again. Sorry I don't remember the details. Obviously I did something wrong!

Now I'm trying to reconcile my account for the year and would like to get this investment back with the data that was present on the last backup I can find that includes this file. I think just a few quarterly reinvestments of dividends will bring things up to date.

So, what is the best way to go about this. Will it be safe to click on the file and then convert it to the latest file format when asked? I have been hesitant to do so.

Hi David,

It sounds like you just need to restore this one investment file (*.dat). If your 'backup' is a manual one, where you have the .dat, just copy it to your regular data folder, and open it using "File / Open Investment...". If your backup is a Fund Manager *.FMB backup, use "File / Restore..." and only select that one investment, and choose to restore only the selected item (not everything in backup). After you restore it, you will need to open it using "File / Open Investment(s)...".
Thanks,
Mark
