Schwab CD transactions frequently parsed incorrectly

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby Dean » Tue Jan 01, 2008 5:05 pm

It's necessary to edit and/or rebuild manually many of the CD transactions downloaded from Schwab. Some are absent. In one case, three transactions from (two or three [I don't recall exactly how many] CD's) actually were mis-mapped and aggregated into a single investment file. Some have blank fields for the security name (which, when present is a Schwab id#, not the description of the CD). The CD description is in the memo field. Price sometimes is 0 (instead of $100). Sometimes a nearly blank transaction comes across with a price of $1.

Is there a work-around for this?

p.s. I would be helpful to have a CD investment type in the non-user-editable menu in the general tab of investment properties, along with the choices for stock, bond, ETF, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Dean,

Retrieved transactions are assigned into investments based on the CUSIP. This CUSIP property is supplied by the broker in the downloaded OFX file. You'll want to make sure you have the CUSIP recorded accurately in your FM investments, to make sure the transaction mapping is correct. If FM created these investments automatically for you, it should have been assigned the correct CUSIP. You can find this under Investment Properties....

If some transaction isn't retrieving properly it may be because it was simply supplied that way by the broker. If it was supplied correctly by the broker, but FM isn't parsing it correctly, we can take a look at fixing that. If you have a specific case you'd like us to take a look at, please email all the transaction retrieve log files, along with details on which specific transaction isn't importing as you expect. For more on these log files, see the bottom of this page:
