Edit data for an investment

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby cbenenax » Sun Nov 22, 2015 2:20 pm

I recently replaced my old PC and (re-)installed Fund Manager on the new one. I lost all configuration I had done.

I have got things back almost to where they were. However, I believe on the old computer, when viewing a report, I could left-click an investment and it would bring up the dialog box to edit transactions. Now it brings up a report for that investment (only) and I have to click on that to bring up the transactions dialog (or use Edit / All Data from the original report).

There must be some setting that controls this behavior, but I can't find it. Where is it?

Hi cbenenax,

It sounds like that first report is not listing by "investment". Instead, it may be listing by symbol, asset type, sector, investment type, etc... If it isn't listing by investment, and you click on a line item, it will create a new report for just that one line item, but listed by investment. When you click on an investment, then you'll see the Data Register for that investment. Take a look at the report settings for that first report, and see what you have for "List By", and it sounds like you may want to change it to "Investment".

Also, when transferring data to a new computer, if you follow these instructions all your preferences/data will be transferred:

Yes I listi by symbol. I don't like to see all the text of the investment name.

Seems to me I have always done it that way, and yet double-click would go to the transaction editor. Is there really no configuration to do that?

Hi cbenenax,

You would need to list by investment to have it go directly to the Data Register. If you change that report to list by Investment, you can then also change "Options / General Preferences... / Display / Investment Description" to "Symbol". That will eliminate the investment name text, but still be listing by investment, so when you click on an investment, it will open in the Data Register.
Thanks,
Mark
