Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.
by SHAREVJ » Thu Feb 04, 2016 8:08 am
I am looking for a report where it should provide the amount invested in a every month/year vs how much it has grown as on the given date. For example ~~~~~~~~~~ Month : Invested Value :: As On Today Value ::: % Gain As on Today Apr-15 $5,000 :: $7,000 ::: 40% May-15 : $1,000 :: -$900 ::: -10%
Can you please help me to get this report. This will give me an idea of how my investment on every month has grown compared to other months investment. Please note the "Invested Value" should be the some of investment to the respective month and not the total invested value till that month.

Hi SHAREVJ,
There is no report that gives you this data in that format. You could consider using the "Monthly" Performance" report, and using different performance metrics. You can only get a single performance metric at a time, but there are these available:
ROI, TWR, Value, Gain, or %Gain
If you want all 3 of the fields you mentioned, you could create a Custom report, with up to 6 date ranges, each one for a different month. Add the fields you want to see. You can only get up to 6 this way, but you can have more than 1 field at a time.

Hello Mark,
Can this be a feature in next release. This will help a lot to analyses investment performance.
Monthly Performance report is giving performance on month wise for the total investment whereas I am looking for the investment performance on investments made every month.

Hi SHAREVJ,
That report has a single performance metric per month, and shows that same metric for each month. Is there some single performance metric field, like from the list of Custom report fields, that you'd like to see added as an option for the Monthly Performance report?

Hello Mark,
Yes. The single metric is the invested amount as on the respective month, how much it is as on the report date.
For example Sum of Net Investments on the following month May-2015 -- $1000 : As On Today : $1234 June-2015 -- $250 : As on today : $175
The basis is, sum of the transactions made in a particular month on various scripts and its report date's value. For example Date -- Script -- Transaction Type -- Qty --- Rate --- Fee --- Net Amount 02-May-2015 -- Microsoft --- Buy --- 100 --- $12 -- $0.25 -- $1199.75 06-May-2015 -- Intel --- Buy --- 25 -- $10 -- $0.25 --- $249.75 09-May-2015 -- Xerox -- Sell --- 15 -- $14.5 -- $2 -- $215.5
Total Investment in May-2015 = ($1199.75 + $249.75 - $215.5) = $1234 Same investments as on today Microsoft --- 100 --- $15 --- $1500 Intel --- 25 -- $9 --- $225 Sum --- $1725
Net value = $1725-$1234 = $491
Hence the report will look like assuming report date is today Year Apr May June July August 2015 --- $491
Basically it is the sum of lots on each month and its present value

Hi SHAREVJ,
I'm not sure I followed that. Are you asking for a metric that shows the beginning value, plus the amount invested during each month? That would be the same as the Custom report field:
Out of pocket invested (between)
Is this correct? If not, is there a Custom report field that calculates what you're looking for? If so, please let me know the name of that field.

Hello Mark,
Basically I want Out of Pocket expenses and present value of that particular expenses grouped by Months. Though the OOP is available in Custom report, I have no provision to group it under each month. Is there any way I can group my out of pocket expenses and its present value on monthly basis
Please advice

Hi SHAREVJ,
In the Monthly performance report you can only have 1 number per month. You can choose the "Gain" performance metric, and this is the difference between the 2 numbers you're looking for. It doesn't show cost and value separately, but Gain is the difference between OOP Cost and Value. You could also generate a Monthly performance report with Value as the metric. You can't see these both on the same report at the same time, but with 2 separate reports you can see the Gain on one, and Value on another. If you wanted to see OOP cost on a monthly basis you could export both to Excel and subtract Gain from Value, which would give you the OOP Cost.
