Same Bond - Different YTM

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby sbfree » Sat Jun 11, 2016 7:11 am

Hi:
I have 3 bonds in two different accounts. The 'Bond Summary' report prints out YTM's that are different in each of the accounts. I've looked at all the entries but can't seem to find why they are different. I attached a copy of the text from the report. Where can I look to reconcile why the two accounts have different YTM figures?
Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Take a look at your bond's closing prices on the day prior (6/10) to your report's ending date (6/11). The YTM is the yield from the report's ending date (6/11) to maturity. Yields are inclusive of the beginning day, so the starting point in this case is the close of 6/10, which isn't shown on your report. You can view this data in the Data Register under the data type of "Prices".
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks. The price data seemed to have caused the problem. On account had about 20 prices but the other had only 3. I was unable to make FM get historical prices using the FINRA server. I entered the prices manually and then the YTM became the same.

Can you suggest how I can get historical bond prices to update from a server? Can I copy price data from one account to another on the same security?

Thanks again.

Hi Scott,

I'm not aware of a server that offers historical bond quotes. You can copy/paste prices from one investment to another using the Data Register. Switch to the data type you want, select all the data, right click to copy, and then go to the other investment and paste it.

For more on using the Data Register, see this tutorial:
