Current ACB vs Overall ACB

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby ThomasK » Tue Dec 15, 2015 9:01 am

How do I use FundManager to show/include the realized gains/losses in the ACB calculation?

On one hand I want to see the "Current ACB" for an investment...that is to say after Wash Sale Rule allows the realization of a loss. This would be the actual ACB.

On the other hand I want to see the "Overall ACB" for an investment...that is to say that FM computes the ACB by adding/subtracting the previous loses/gains to the ACB. For example, if there is a realized loss of $2/share on XYZ from before then the "Overall ACB" would show $2/share HIGHER than the "Current ACB". This is for ego and long term investment performance.

I'm guessing I can also control the start date for the Overall ACB calculation?

Thanks,
ThomasK

Hi Thomas,

Use a Custom report, and look at all the fields starting with "Tax basis". If you click on any of these fields in the Custom Report Settings dialog, you can see a short description. You can get your tax basis, realized gain/loss, and unrealized gain/loss for any accounting method.

You may also want to look at the "OOP Cost" fields, which can be shown in report or graph format. When graphing cost, you can get either "Current" or "Historical" cost plotted. The historical cost includes all your realized gains/losses, where the current only shows the basis for the currently owned shares. You might want to read the documentation on the 2 cost based investment graphs:

There is also a portfolio based cost graph, or the portfolio gain graph, which factors in this same cost. See:

Thanks,
Mark
