Bulk Turn off of Hidden Attribute

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby SteveP » Thu Jan 21, 2016 11:49 am

I had been in the practice of hiding sold investments. This seemed like the obvious thing to do but has led to problems with reports. I either end up with reports where the total line doesn't match the sum of the investments in the reports because some items are hidden or if I click on view hidden reports I see all the investments with zero value across the entire report range because the settings on the report are over ridden. I noticed there is now a bulk option for turning on the hidden attribute for sold investments. I would like to turn off the hidden attribute for all my investments. Is there some way to do this in bulk?

HI SteveP,

Yes, that dialog (File / File Operations / Hide Sold Investments...) can be used to turn on the hidden attribute, as well as turn it off for non-sold investments. To turn off all the hidden attributes, you can set a very large date range, and run this command with all 4 options checked. If you ever owned any shares of an investment within this specified date range it will be considered non-sold, and the hidden attribute will be removed from these investments.

If you want to instead mark everything as hidden that you don't currently own, and un-hide anything you do own, just set the date range to today to today when you run this.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the quick reply, Mark. I tried this and got a message that it hid 4 investments while unhiding all the others. I used a very large date range from today back to sometime in the 1990's. I'm still trying to figure out what investments it could be hiding. Any idea?

Hi SteveP,

It must be some investments you haven't owned at all over that date range. Do you maybe have some indices or exchange rate investments, or some investments you are just watching, but don't own?

If you turn on/off "View / Hidden Investments/Portfolios" you can turn their display on/off, so you can see them.
Thanks,
Mark
