Request : copy + move a trend line (for trend channels)

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager graphs.

Postby Djobydjoba » Sat Jan 31, 2015 1:03 pm

Hi Mark,

A key feature for graphical analysis is the duplication (copy) of a line. Duplication is the way to obtain lines of same slope, and so to draw channels in particular. Channels are incredibly simple but effective, everybody understand the concept and it's a high-priority tool for any chartist to determine targets, or just to follow a trend.

Line duplication implies the ability to move the duplicated line on the screen for positioning, and not a end of the line after the other, in order to keep the same slope.

So this two requests for a future release of Fund Manager : 1) copy a trend line 2) move a trend line entirely to keep the slope (instead of an end after the other).

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

A minor suggestion about trendlines:

Currently, when Ctrl + Shift + drag (normally used to draw a new trendline) is used on an existing trendline (when the cursor is a cross), this duplicates the existing trendline, like Ctrl+drag does.

Suggestion: on an existing trendline, Ctrl + Shift + drag should draw a new trendline as usual. This would be handier / faster / more intuitive in some situations. For example, this would be easier when we want to draw a trendline from an endpoint where an existing trendline goes through (on the screenshot, to draw the trendline 2 from point A with trendline 1 already drawn: https://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/73443 ... 1h4801.png).

I've just found that if a trendline AB is duplicated from its endpoint B (Ctrl+drag from B), this creates a new trendline with endpoint A. This is useful and well done. But this technique for creating a trendline with the same endpoint as another trendline cannot be used easily if point B is out of the screen. So Ctrl + Shift + drag to draw another trendline that starts from endpoint A is useful too in this case (and it is a more intuitive way to do in fact).

So it would be handier if Ctrl + Shift + drag could draw a new trendline when on an existing trendline too.

PS: post rewritten.

Hi Djobydjoba,

Okay, understood. I agree that would be a better implementation. Thanks for the help/feedback, we'll see about getting this improved.
Thanks,
Mark
