Downloading Transactions from Schwab

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Good_Vibe » Tue Sep 24, 2013 11:33 am

Mark:

We have recently moved our investments to Charles Schwab. We use Fund Manager 11.9. According to the Help Contents in version 11.9,

"Transaction data can be imported from SchwabLink or Schwab Data Delivery CSmmddyy.TRN files into Fund Manager. Ask Schwab to set up your account for either their "Generic" or "Advent" formatted transaction files."

Being new to Schwab, I've been unable to locate SchwabLink or Schwab Data Delivery. Can you point me to SchwabLink or Schwab Data Delivery?

Schwab's help desk doesn't seem to know what "Generic" or "Advent". Can you provide further information that might help get our accounts structured so we can directly download transactions from Schwab?

Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Phil

Hi Phil,

First, you need to be using the Advisor version of Fund Manager to import these files. See "File / Import / Transactions / Schwab...".

Also, please make sure you are talking with someone from the "institutional" side of Schwab, and they should know about Schwab Data Delivery. This has replaced Schwablink, which I don't think is available anymore. You can google it online, and read about it. I did this, and just found this:

http://www.schwabinstitutional.com/publ ... very-2.pdf

which gives a brief overview. It is an app you'll run on your PC, and you can download their "Generic" formatted files, once you've asked Schwab to make these available. I would recommend the "Generic" format over the "Advent" format.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Phil,

I should have also mentioned, that if you're not an advisor, and are just tracking your own accounts, you don't need to use their institutional Schwab Data Delivery interface. Instead, use their retail interface, where you "retrieve" transactions. Just select "Charles Schwab" as the broker in the "Transaction Retrieve Settings" dialog. This retail interface is available in all versions of Fund Manager, and requires you to enter your login information in order to retrieve the account's information. The institutional interface is for advisors, so they don't have to know all their client's login information, and can update all their accounts with a single import.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, Mark.

I'm pursuing both options you mentioned. Excellent help! I really appreciate your broad and specific knowledge.

Dear Mark:

Holy Cow! The download from Charles Schwab worked perfectly! I'm delighted.

There are only reinvest dividends and transfer assets to Schwab, so there are many more types to come. But this is a terrific sign.

THANKS AGAIN! :D :D :D
