Trouble reconciling Vanguard sweep account

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby quercus » Tue Oct 08, 2013 4:36 pm

Hi Mark,

I know Vanguard recently did some work on their systems that kept the transaction retrieve function offline for a few days.

Prior to this, all of my accounts had been reconciled in Fund Manager. Now that the maintenance is complete, I can’t get Fund Manager to reconcile my sweep accounts. We have 2 Vanguard brokerage accounts, and I'm I'm seeing the same problem in both of them.

Here’s an example:

Fund Manager – Portfolio Value Report:
...Mutual fund account – money market: $38
...Brokerage account – money market: $0

Vanguard's website agrees with Fund Manager:
...Mutual fund account - money market: $38
...Brokerage account - money market: $0 (and there are no pending credits and debits)

But when I run Fund Manager's “reconciliation wizard”, I get this:
...Mutual fund account: all funds balanced
...Brokerage account: Money Market not balanced. Fund Manager 0, Statement 38, Difference -38

I tried deleting all transactions going back a couple months, then I let FM re-import them. No change.

Wonder if Vanguard changed something during the maintenance that's causing the reconciliation wizard to get a little confused...

Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill,

Are you describing multiple accounts below? If you reconcile just your brokerage account, and look on a per-investment basis, what do you see? Maybe you can email me a screen shot of the reconciliation wizard showing the problem, and also your xmldump.txt log file in your user's AppData \ Roaming \ Fund Manager folder.
Thanks,
Mark

I'm experiencing the same thing. Started back in October. Looks like the information coming from Vanguard in the "Statement" column of the reconciliation is pulling in the sweep account, which is in the Vanguard mutual fund account. Prior to mid-October, everything balanced.

I think it's attributable to changes Vanguard made on their end. Quicken users haven't been able to download transactions for about a month now.

Just figured out how to resolve this. If you set the default cash account in the Vanguard brokerage account to "none", it takes care of the issue. Technically, there is no cash investment in the Vanguard brokerage account. Any cash is swept to the Vanguard mutual fund account.
