Updating GPB:EUR and GBP:USD exchanges rates from Yahoo

While I can update the current exchange rates from Yahoo, I cannot download data using the historical option. However, when I go onto the Yahoo site I can download historical data for import into Fund Manager. Is there a problem with the Yahoo server of with Fund Manager? Any solutions?

Can you point me to what symbol you're using, and where you're finding historical prices listed on Yahoo? I don't see them. For example, if you look up the symbol for:

GBPUSD=X

You can see the current quote, and a "Basic Chart", but there is no link to "Historical Prices", like there is with other symbols. For example, look up:

INTC

and you will see a "Historical Prices" link, which is where "Yahoo (Historical)" is getting prices.

There are other options for historical exchange rates. See:

Hi Mark,
I do not see a link to historical prices either indeed my solution at the moment has been to backpopulate with oanda and bloomberg as suggested and update also with bloomberg sticking with EURUSD:CUR.
However, what has surprised me (as I am evaluating several portfolio management software) is that software like StockMarketEye (vastly inferior to fund manager for its reporting, graphing, multi currency, data repositories, ...) that admittedly uses only google and yahoo data, still managed to quickly download a long fx history for me. I wonder whether there is some backdoor to yahoo's data.

Hi Paolo,

I'm not sure how that other product is getting the fx data. Maybe that do have access to some other interfaces we do not. I'm not familiar with that product.

I am using the GBPUSD=X symbol and when I originally I downloaded the data as a CSV table. I may have confused myself as to where I got the historic data from when I first set up Fund Manager, but I'm pretty sure it was from Yahoo as I only learnt of the Bloomberg site from one of the recent posts when I was searching for help on this question.

However, while Yahoo does have historic exchange rate data back to 2003 (https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=GBPUSD=X), but the website has been updated and the data now only appears to be available in chart form, while I'm pretty sure there was previously an option to download the data as a CVS / Excel file, but then again the old grey cells may be playing tricks on me.

At the end of the day if the data is available from Bloomberg, then it is not really important whether it was available from Yahoo sometime in the past or not
