Retrieving options prices

I have never had any success retrieving equity option prices from Yahoo Historical or Yahoo. Every time I try, I get a message that FM was unable to retrieve the price. Yahoo appends a .X at the end of the option symbol, but that does not work. This is the only thing I have ever had a problem retrieving. I've also tried other sites, but without success. Anyone have any advice on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks.

Hi Al,

Have you verified that your option quote is available on Yahoo? Yahoo (Historical) does not offer historical option quotes, but you should be able to get current option quotes off Yahoo if you have the symbol recorded properly. To find the option symbols, look up the underlying stock, and then click on the "Options" link on the left menu. For example, an option in Intel is NQAB.X, and this will retrieve from Yahoo. If you still have troubles, please let me know what symbol you can see on Yahoo, but aren't able to retrieve in Fund Manager.

Thanks, Mark. That did it. I was using Yahoo Historical, and I didn't know Yahoo didn't supply historical options data, only current.

I find it interesting to chart the day-to-day prices of the LEAPS I own, even if the prices are largely irrelevant in the short term, so I update daily.

I have never been able to retrieve option prices from the Yahoo Real-time Server. An example that won't update is BACJH.X When I go to Yahoo and use this option symbol, I get the current quote. Any ideas?

Hi Greg,

Unfortunately, the Yahoo (Real-Time) server doesn't offer option pricing. You can see this on Yahoo's web site, by looking up the quote for the option you're interested in. There is no link to "Real Time ECN" like there is on regular stock quotes. You should however be able to retrieve this option quote using the regular "Yahoo" server.
