Import of generic sells file skipping transactions

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby barleypop » Wed Aug 10, 2016 3:18 am

Hello,
I tried creating a new portfolio using an import->transactions->generic using this format:

MM/DD/YY,TRAN,ACCT,PORT,SYMB,ANUM,BNUM,CNUM

I then used this data as a test and was able to record all three transactions:
10/01/09,BUY,3,test_acct,ABV,15.44,1,0
11/01/09,BUY,3,test_acct,AAPL,189.86,1,0
01/01/10,BUY,3,test_acct,PCLN,219.23,1,0

I then did it again with my sells using this data:
11/16/12,SELL,3,test_acct,PCLN,617.495,1,0
02/11/13,SELL,3,test_acct,AAPL,479.095,1,0
04/15/13,SELL,3,test_acct,ABV,39.815,1,0

But it only loaded the first sell of PCLN, I tried several other things like the order but could not get it to work. I also turned off the "Skip Transactions Already in FM" but that did not help. So then I created a new portfolio and put all transactions into a single file and it loaded everything. I retested this by deleting the portfolio and trying it again and it worked. So I'm not sure why loading sells separately does not seem to work so if you can figure out what I'm doing wrong I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hi barleypop,

I just copied/pasted those second 3 transactions into a file, and test imported them with the format string you provided. All 3 imported okay. I'm guessing you may have had some other formatting characters you were not seeing? One tip is to open up the file in a text editor, like Notepad. This way you can see the raw data. Sometimes if you open it in Excel certain characters are hidden, like double quotes for example.

I also attached the test file I used with these 3 transactions, so you can possibly try it yourself, or compare it to the other file you were importing.

Hi barleypop,

Also, you're using an old quote module. If you're planning to retrieve prices, please do a "Help / FM on the Web / Check for Updates..." and download the latest quote module. There have been a lot of changes since version 498.
