How to handle APU merger to UGI?

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby rjwerning » Wed Aug 28, 2019 6:15 am

Recently APU (AmeriGas partners) merged into UGI Corp. I had 377.304 shares of APU @31.29, I received 240 shares of UGI at, I believe, 48.92 plus 30.68 cash in lieu.
My cost basis of APU was 26.138/share, not sure if that matters here.

Not sure how I record this transaction so that everything carries over correctly. Any advice?

thank you

Hi Rich W,

The easiest way is to use a split transaction. So, record a split with a ratio of <new shares> for <old shares>. I'm guessing it really was more than 240 since you sold a partial share for 30.68, and ended up with 240. So, if it was 240.5 shares, record a split of 240.5 for 377.304. Next, record a sell for the partial share. In my example, you would sell 0.5 shares for 30.68.

Finally, go into the investment's properties, and change the name/symbol/CUSIP. You could also add a note on this date, reminding you of what happened, or just put it in the memo of the split transaction.
Thanks,
Mark

Bingo! That took care of it, looks like I would expect it to. Thank you!
