distributions not being reinvested??

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby flipper » Tue Dec 18, 2007 5:31 pm

i am using the trial version and setting it up for the first time. i have accounts at vanguard and scottrade and when i download my transactions for both places i see that none of the distributions are being reinvested. do i need to toggle that on someone? i actually thought it was automatic. everything is being reinvested at the two companies. obviously, the two share balances, between FMs and the vang/scott, are off.

also: how do i set up supports for vanguard accounts that don't have actual account numbers? my brokerage accounts have numbers but my nonbrokerage mutual fund accounts, one reg and one ira, do not.

thanks!

Hi Flipper,

There is no setting to control the reinvestment of retrieved distributions. Fund Manager retrieves/records these as reported by your broker or mutual fund company. Often you may see a reinvested distribution show up as 2 transactions, a distributed distribution, and then a separate purchase for the same value. This is equivalent to a single reinvested distribution. I do believe however that Vanguard does normally download these as single reinvested distributions.

If you do not know the account number, there will be some number assigned by the mutual fund company. You can set up a sub-portfolio, and leave the account number blank for the first retrieve, but enter your username and password for retrieving transactions. When Fund Manager retrieves this sub-portfolio it retrieves a list of all available account numbers for that username/password, and display them to you in a list, so you can select which one you want to use for that sub-portfolio.
Thanks,
Mark
