Import insanity

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby pcwolf » Sun Aug 16, 2009 7:28 pm

Mark ...

Have been a user since OS/2 days. Now on version 8.10, considering update to 9.8

Trying to update my data in order to return to using FM/2 after quitting for a few years. Redhat had a symbol change some time ago, from RHAT to RHT. Now I have two separate data files (at least the Scottrade import function worked right out of the box)

Frustration is ... go to RHAT, select EXPORT, all formats are Fundmgr.TXT. Go to RHT file to IMPORT, only selection type is Fundmgr.DAT. OK, go to IMPORT the RHAT.DAT file, nothing gets done!

One would think your EXPORT and IMPORT file formats would be the same in order to absorb one FUNDMGR.DAT file into another. Export Fundmgr format, import Fundmgr format.

Extremely frustrating.

Hi pcwolf,

If you want to export transactions, and import them back, use the QIF format. If you are trying to transfer prices, you can import directly from a .DAT file, but this usually isn't necessary, as it is very easy to just retrieve prices usually.

The easiest way to move all transactions from one investment to another is to use copy/paste, instead of export/import. You can do this in the 9.x versions, from within the Data Register. Select all the transactions, and click the double down arrow, and choose "Copy". Change to the desired destination investment, and choose the double down arrow again, and choose "Paste".
Thanks,
Mark
