Using "Split" Feature on Vanguard Mutual Fund Conv

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby ftchang » Thu Dec 27, 2007 8:31 pm

In an earlier question, it was suggested to use the "split" feature to account for a Vanguard mutual fund that was converted from "Investor" to "Admiral" share. Even with the same fund name, the Investor and Admiral shares have different share prices.

I was able to perform the conversion following the steps. However, since this conversion actually creates an investment in a new fund with different symbol, I did not see how to separate the new from the old funds. It seems all transactions both past and future still reside in the old fund.

Is there a way to "split" into a new fund with different name?

Hello ftchang,

In Fund Manager you are using the same investment to track the new shares. You don't end up with a new investment in Fund Manager. After you record the split, then you can go in and do a name/symbol change under "Investment Properties... / General".
Thanks,
Mark
