Vanguard Import Glitch

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby elliots » Fri Oct 01, 2010 3:26 pm

Mark,

I've just noticed a problem with mutual fund transactions downloaded from Vanguard. I have some accounts where the distribution from one fund is paid into another fund rather than reinvested in the paying fund. What's happening is the payment is being recorded as a reinvestment in the receiving fund rather than a purchase (thus inflating the gain/return of the receiving fund). The imported memo fields correctly describe the source of the money ("dividend from XYZ Fund").

I've got the Vanguard stuff in a sub-portfolio under the client. Now in fact, the receiving funds are Vanguard Money Market funds, so I guess I could make the money market fund the default cash fund for the Vanguard sub-portfolio -- or should the import work directly?

Hi Elliot,

I'd be curious to see how this is being brought down from Vanguard. If you retrieve just this one account, and then go look at the xmldump.txt file, how does this purchase show up? For instructions on finding this log file, please read the very bottom of this page:

You can either post the results here, of if you prefer, send it in an email.
Thanks,
Mark
